Lessons From My First Year of Gardening

I’ve been pouring so much love into my tiny apartment window garden this summer. This was my first time ever gardening and I learned so much about plant care and cooking with herbs!

Decorating with Wild Flowers

Here’s what I planted in my garden this year:

  • Basil
  • Beets
  • Celery
  • Chives
  • Cilantro
  • Fennel
  • Kale
  • Mint
  • Mixed Greens
  • Nasturtiums
  • Oregano
  • Tarragon
  • Thyme

Overall, I found the chives, tarragon, thyme, and oregano to be the most useful and durable. You can add them to almost any dish for some extra flavor! Next year, I’d like to focus on herbs instead of vegetables and plant more basil plants because 2 did not produce enough for many dishes.

I also noticed that the herbs that had a pot to themselves seemed to grow better, while mixed pots did not look as healthy. The nasturtiums were very pretty but bloomed late in the season and were difficult to maintain.
